David Nicholas leads BP’s central group press office team in London. While each of the team acts as primary point of contact for specific business areas, all can respond to any press enquiry. David is the main point of contact for BP group, corporate, financial and strategic issues, including low carbon activities. He has led the group press office since late 2010 and has been a member of BP’s media relations team since the early 1990s. He first joined BP as a research chemist, way back in the late 1980s
Shannon joined the press team in 2016 and is the primary point of contact for BP’s Downstream and trading businesses. Prior to joining the team, Shannon held roles in the group communications team and the trading business. Before joining BP, Shannon worked in small and mid-cap investor relations teams in Canada and the UK.
Rita joined BP in April 2018 and is the primary point of contact for BP Upstream and technology. Prior to joining the team, Rita worked as a reporter and editor on various industry publications including Energy Voice which she joined in 2014. She was later named Specialist Reporter of the Year and her exclusive interview with Sir Ian Wood, ahead of the Scottish Referendum won Scoop of the Year.
Carolyn has been a member of the press office team since 2003. She has vast experience of working within BP’s communications function and should be the default point of contact for any press or media-related queries.

Brett Clanton leads the U.S. media affairs team from BP’s U.S. headquarters in Houston. He joined BP in 2012 and is the main point of contact for BP’s U.S. Lower 48 onshore oil and gas business, as well as for Alternative Energy, BP’s North American natural gas and power marketing and trading business and other U.S. business activities and corporate issues. Prior to joining BP, Clanton was a newspaper reporter for 13 years.
Jason Ryan joined the BP U.S. media affairs in 2013 and is the main press contact for BP’s upstream oil and gas business in the U.S. This includes the Gulf of Mexico, Upstream Technology and BP’s Global Wells and Global Project Organizations. Before BP, Ryan worked for nearly 15 years at ABC News, covering national security and legal matters. He is based in Washington, D.C.
Mike Abendhoff joined the U.S. media affairs team in 2015 and is the primary press contact for BP’s U.S. downstream business. This includes oil refining, petrochemicals and fuel retailing and marketing. Based in Chicago, Abendhoff has been with BP and predecessor companies for over 30 years. Prior to joining the media affairs team, worked in a number of roles across BP’s downstream business.
Megan Baldino joined the U.S. Media Affairs team in 2018 and supports BP Alaska, BP Shipping and other BP business activities in the U.S. Based in Anchorage, she previously held corporate communications roles in the oil and gas and the telecommunications industries, and before that worked for more than a decade as a broadcast journalist in Alaska.
