BP and Castrol is the official fuel and lubricants provider, through the BP Ultimate and Castrol EDGE brands.

2017 was a steady inaugural year for the fledgling team. The F1? season began in March at Melbourne’s Albert Park and culminated in November at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. The Renault Sport Formula One? Team showed continuous improvement throughout the year, drivers Carlos Sainz, Nico Hülkenberg and Jolyon Palmer1 finishing ninth, 10th and 17th respectively, while the team came sixth in the constructor’s championship.

Meet the drivers

Nico Hülkenberg

Nico Hülkenberg joined Renault Sport Formula One? Team with an impressive racing career ahead of his eye-opening Formula 1? debut in 2010. Nico also achieved a pole position in his rookie F1? season and won at Le Mans on his debut, with Porsche in 2015.

Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz joined Renault Sport Formula One? Team in October 2017, ahead of the United States Grand Prix.

Carlos is no stranger to Renault Sport, having won two driver titles during his junior years.  

Jack Aitken

Jack Aitken will step up his role with Renault Sport Formula One? Team by becoming the team’s Third and Reserve Driver. Jack, a Renault Sport Academy member since its inception in 2016, graduates to the position after two excellent seasons in GP3 where he finished runner-up.

Artem Markelov

Artem Markelov joins Renault Sport Formula One? Team as the team’s Test and Development Driver. Artem, runner-up in the 2017 FIA Formula 2? Championship with Russian Time, will get his first taste of Formula 1?  involvement following four years of racing in GP2 and Formula 2?.

Edging ahead

BP and Castrol’s engineers and scientists are working with the Renault Sport Formula One? Team to analyze a vast array of data to ensure that engine, fuel and oil are working in perfect concert. It’s the tiniest of margins that turn into the milliseconds and centimetres which keep the team edging ahead.

With the inaugural year of the partnership behind them, BP, Castrol and Renault Sport Formula One? Team are set to push the boundaries into 2018 and beyond.

1 On 7 October 2017, it was announced that Jolyon Palmer would leave Renault at the end of the Japanese Grand Prix, to be replaced by Carlos Sainz.
